[Rei's doing his best to not look like the most dejected person on earth, but it's a little hard right now. He opens his mouth to say something, but pauses to clear his throat. There's a following pause, as if he's still trying to find words. Then, after a minute or two, he finally figures it out.]

...So... I've heard it's common here for people to come and go without warning. I, ah... had two friends here, Nagisa and Momotarou, who'd been traveling with me since my arrival. And... as it's been a few days now and their information hasn't returned into my Gear now, I think it's safe to say that they're not here anymore.

[He sighs.]

Well, if you were friends with either of them, they've both returned to Iwatobi. I ended up with two Vivillon's in my party... Given their names and colors, I imagine I inherited their pokemon.

I... guess I'm on my own, now. It isn't too uncommon, traveling by oneself in this world, is it? I know most people prefer traveling in groups, as it's often safer, but...

[He shakes his head.]

Alas. We must deal with the hands dealt to us by fate, must we not?

What!!! We can just disappear?

[He pauses.]

How..how? Were they decommissioned? Shot? Terminated? Fire walled..well there certainly is a lot of ways to be eliminated isn't there. That's ominous...mildly terrifying if you ask me.

Well... yes and no. Physically, it's impossible to just disappear--but from this world, you're actually just sent back to your home.

[He just looks uncomfortable, shaking his head. Why thoughts of death?!]

Ah... none of those. They were merely returned to where we came from. They're not dead!

Oh no! You can disappear...well I guess not literally, but you can be wiped, bashed, destroyed, incinerated and neurotoxined. Let me tell you those last two are not a pretty way to go. A cruel fate one particular weighted cube reached it's end in fire and it never lived to tell it's tale.

[He pauses.]

How can you be so sure they're not dead? They could be, it is possible, you can't just rule that out!

Because their pokemon are here! Well, some of them. Their communication devices would still work, wouldn't they?

....unless their bodies are sent home upon death. [Oh no... he's giving himself ideas now.]

That's a possibility! Did he get into any incredibly dangerous activities before you stopped hearing from him?

Ah... I don't think so.

Mmmm, well...uhhh. Huh.

[He pauses for a moment and thinks. His hand groping his chin. His eyes dance from bottom to top.]

Well why not try asking his pokemon? They're here right? They should be able to give some assistance.

[esthetically]

Well... I've only received... one, it looks like? [He shudders a little.] I highly doubt he's dead, though.

Oh come on! You gotta talk to it! How else are you gonna know? I know, I know make some cards, right! Like some of those tiny cards humans use to memorize really and not that important facts. Then write Yes or No on them and ask the pokemon to point toooo the correct. One.

It's got to work!

That... is actually quite the brilliant solution for our language barrier. I think I'll do that; they do understand when I talk, I'm just not sure how the yes-or-no answers work. Do you think regular paper would be fine, or would it be beneficial to buy cards?

It is? Well pff, of course it is! I thought of the idea and you know only someone who ISN'T a moron could think of something like that!

I see! Well, I'm glad you've shared this idea with me. I'll see what they can tell me with regular paper. If not, we'll upgrade.
